You throw a party, promote it for months, pack the venue, and then Eventbrite or whoever takes their cut. 10%. 15%. Sometimes more when you add up all the "service fees" and "processing fees" and whatever other fees they invented that week.

You do all the work. They take the money. It's been this way forever, and everyone just... accepts it?

I can't count how many times I've heard this at 3am, standing outside some warehouse, talking to a promoter friend who's doing the math on their phone.

"Sold 400 tickets at $30... that's $12,000... minus their fees... minus the venue... minus the DJ... minus sound... I made $200."

And I'd nod and say "yeah someone should fix that" and then go home and not fix it.
